Walter C. "Wiff" Nogulich

Walter (Wiff) Christ Nogulich passed away peacefully on August 19, 2022 at the age of 101 years and nine months. Beloved husband of +Helen Mandusich Nogulich, loving father of Daniella (Bobby) Gomez, Natalija Nogulich and Christ Nogulich; dear grandfather of Nicolaus and Lexie Nogulich; cherished son of +Christ and +Sofia Cjovijanka Nogulich; brother of +Violet Nogulich, +Bob (+Louise) Nogulich, +Dorothy (+Peter) Bolan; devoted Uncle to Kim Simic, +Mark Bolan ,Tammy (George) Goff, Justin (Gail) Hawk, Pamela (George) Leventis, Caliope (Nikko) Dallas, Van Nomikos, Sava (Jorda) Mandusich; son-in-law of +Jake Allex and +Velinka Mandusich; treasured godfather to Lynn, Vida, Lazo and Milan (Claire) Jordan; and deeply loved Deda to Aleksandra (+Dejan) Zlatkovic, Jasmina (Milosh) Markovich, Milan (Deanna) Mandusich. Walter (Wiff) Nogulich was born in Chicago and attended Lane Tech High School. In his youth he excelled in various athletics at Hamlin Park. Later, Wiff enlisted in the U.S. Army and was one of the patriotic young soldiers that landed in Normandy on D-Day with the 90th Infantry Division. His Campaigns included Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, two Presidential Citations. He was Honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on October 30, 1945. He met and married Helen, the love of his life, at Old Holy Resurrection Church right after returning from the war. They had three children and enjoyed a loving marriage for 73 years before she passed in 2020. He worked as a machinist, construction worker, electrical line man, and ultimately a letter carrier for the United States Post Office until he retired in 1985. He was very active in St. Steven of Decani Serbian Orthodox Church which he founded and then served as its President. Wiff’s passion for sports continued into his sixties as he continued to play softball and later golf. Blessed with a sharp mind to the end, Wiff enjoyed reading World War II books, and writing poetry. He was a member of the National Army Museum, the National World War II Museum, the Battle of Normandy Foundation, the United Serbian Brotherhood, and St. Steven of Decani Serbian Orthodox Church. Visitation from 5-9pm with Pomen (Wake Service) at 7pm on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Muzyka & Son Funeral Home, 5776 W. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago. Funeral Service Wednesday, August 24, 2022 10 a.m. at St. Steven of Decani Church, 3543 W. Leland Avenue, Chicago. Interment Montrose Cemetery.
