Mary Therese Zdeblick

Please join us in celebrating the life of Mary Therese Zdeblick, born May 4, 1919 in Chicago, IL, and departed from us April 3, 2007 in Denver, CO. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna, her three brothers, Stanley, Peter and Walter, and her life-long friend, Sr. Denise Pocius. She spent a large part of her life nurturing and lovingly supporting a large family of her own, including her beloved husband of 54 years, William T. Zdeblick; her six children and their spouses, William J. and Joy, Marianne and Frederick (Wamboldt), Thomas and Catherine, Theodore and Sue, Mark and Melanie, Michael and Laurel, and her 15 grandchildren. She will be remembered for her care of others: when she lived in the Chicago area she served as a nurse in both the Visiting Nurse Association and The YMCA Program, was a founding member of St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, served as Den mother for Boy Scouts and Troop Leader for Girl Scouts, and was an active parent supporter of Maine South High School band, sports and foreign exchange student programs. She will be remembered for her love of life: she was an excellent Ukrainian chef, preparing regular traditional feasts; she loved to sew and embroider, creating full embroidered Ukrainian dancing costumes for the entire family; a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Choir,; she enjoyed hiking and skiing as a member of the Englewood Outdoors Club, playing cards with family and friends, and founding and actively participating in “The Fun Club.” She will be remembered as one who created peaceful and happy circumstances: after spending the first part of her life in the South side of Chicago, she and Bill built a simple home in Brookfield bordering a very pleasant forest and field, where the family lived for 12 years, and then built a larger home in Park Ridge to accommodate their six children, where they lived for 17 years. After the children left the home, they built a third home in Florida, where they explored the peaceful beauty of beaches and ocean, traveled to many wonderful places, and lived luxuriously for 8 years. At each home they welcomed and entertained family and friends and celebrated many holidays with dinners and parties. She will be remembered as a warm, practical, salt-of-the-earth, dedicated wife, daughter and mother who always seemed to give the right balance of support and independence. Her last years were spent at the Aspen Siesta of Denver, Colorado, where even in a chronically ill state, she inspired and enriched the lives of those around her with her patience, persistence and positive outlook. Family and friends are invited to gather for a wake at Muzyka and Son Funeral Home, 5776 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago, IL 60630 (773-545-3800) on 10 April from 4 to 9 pm., (special service at 6 pm.). Funeral Services: April 11, 2007, meet at funeral home at 9:30 am for procession to St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 5000 N Cumberland Ave, Chicago, IL, for 10 am Funeral mass; followed by procession to St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park; followed by 3 pm lunch at The White Eagle, 6938 Milwaukee Ave., Niles, IL. The family wishes to thank the Hospice of Metro Denver, 501 S. Cherry Street, Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246-1328, for their loving care, and have named a fund in her honor with them.
